Rain, Rain ...and more rain ⛈

OK, who left the tap running?

Over the past few weeks, my northeast Alberta fields received anywhere from three to five inches of rain and the weekend forecast calls for another one to two inches. They are already SOAKED.

Areas to the west had even more rain and will certainly have to deal with flooded acres. This picture above, taken by my son, is over the Thorhild area before the last few drops fell to the ground. I had ambitions to start spraying this week but rain and wind have made that impossible. Now, we are just mentally preparing to create new sprayer ruts and kill some weeds next week. I wish I could share the rain with y’all who need it!

Market Watch:
- Canola - Old crop June/July bids are ending +0.10/bu more than last Friday whereas new crop bids are about +0.04/bu more. Buyers have been offering $10.50/bu for old crop canola this past week and we found $10.75+/bu offered for April/May 2021.

- Wheat markets are a roller coaster! Cash bids for CPSR and CWRS bids are -$0.25/bu lower than last Friday. The strength in our Canadian dollar is hurting basis levels, too. It's critical to have targets in the market so you can catch the upward swings.

- Oats bids are UP again across the Prairies, so be sure to check your local prices, but you can expect to see certain buyers prepared to offer $4.25 or more.

- We spotted additional strength in barley bids, as well - check them out.

- Bids on old crop yellow peas have softened after some buyers issued a 'last call.'
